Bino & Fino
Raising and empowering children – presenting the African continent in a positive light.
In 2019 we have been able to complete work on German dubbed versions of three episodes of the Nigerian children’s cartoon series “Bino and Fino”.
The idea for the series came about 10 years ago. Adamu Waziri, who conceived the series, realised that there was massive demand for cartoon films that are actually produced in Africa. Until this point, there were almost no cartoon series in Nigeria that children could identify with. All the cartoons they had were imported from other countries and had almost no connection to African culture. The fact that there were no films available anywhere in the world that conveyed a realistic picture of African life and taught children about African culture and history was unacceptable. Bino & Fino was created to fill this gap.
Bino & Fino in Germany
Children from the African diaspora currently have a very limited selection if they want to watch films in which they can see themselves represented, either in cultural or visual terms, and this is the case in Germany too. The series had already been dubbed in Dutch, French and Portuguese and was shown on Dutch children’s TV in 2017 – now we have been able to realise the first German-speaking episodes. The series is aimed at parents, schools and other institutions that are having difficulties accessing media that conveys knowledge about Africa in a positive and entertaining way.
