Art of Buna e.V.

{Buna: Ethiopian=coffee} Art of Buna is a place of symbioses. The gallery – which also functions as a small store with a café – resolutely avoids the art world. Paintings, photographs, graphics and much more are deeply grounded here – far removed from the mechanisms of any market. We see art as what it should be: a means of communication. Communication between the artist and the viewer. Art becomes particularly exciting for us when it contributes to a dialog between different cultures, opinions and attitudes. With exhibitions, lectures and workshops, we would like to make our contribution to a social debate and encourage people of different origins or with the most diverse experiences to enter into dialog. We invite you to discover new things, to meet people and art – and to enjoy a delicious Ethiopian coffee.

Culturally & socially committed…

In addition to exhibitions, we regularly organize literary readings, film screenings, lectures and small acoustic concerts. In our small store you will find the extraordinary! Things that have been created by people with a lot of love and passion: e.g. exclusive, limited edition art prints, posters and postcards.

For us, cultural and social commitment go hand in hand. In 2017, we launched the Artists for Cap Anamur initiative. Here, artists donate works to an art collection for the benefit of the Cologne-Ehrenfeld aid organization Cap Anamur / German Emergency Doctors e.V. A special focus of our commitment is – as our name suggests – Ethiopia. Here, for example, we promote literature for children and young people. Together with Ethiopian authors, we develop books for children and young people that are displayed in public institutions (e.g. schools).

The non-profit association

The association is primarily dedicated to two goals:

(1) The planning and realization of art exhibitions, readings, film screenings and lectures in our club rooms in Genter Straße, as well as at other venues. The promotion of an international attitude, tolerance in all areas of culture and the idea of international understanding are a focal point here.

(2) The implementation of projects in the field of development cooperation – such as our initiative “Promotion of literature for young people in Ethiopia” or our initiative “Artists for Cap Anamur” (an art collection for the benefit of the Cologne-Ehrenfeld aid organization “Cap Anamur”) – are two examples worth mentioning here.

If the work of our association appeals to you and you would like to get personally involved with us, please contact us …
