Contemporary East Africa #3
Contemporary East Africa #3 – Modern Art from Ethiopia & Rwanda.
In the fall of 2017, the first group exhibition entitled “Contemporary East Africa” took place at the Cologne art gallery “Art of Buna”. The following year, 2018, a second exhibition was initiated with “Contemporary East Africa #2” – a loose series was born. The series presents contemporary art from East Africa, on the pulse of the times, as it can be seen in the booming galleries of Addis Ababa, Kampala or Kigali.
Art from Africa is still very under-represented in German galleries and museums. While the art and cultural scene in African metropolises is vibrant and flourishing, the European idea of African art is all too often still based on clichés from the past. With this series, we would like to offer an art-interested audience an insight into current developments in the creative scenes of major East African cities. The exhibition will be complemented by a broad supporting program with film screenings and live music.
Contemporary East Africa #3 is supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne.
