Die Alchemie der Seventh Street
by Brian Chikwava, translated by
Julia Königs
Two stories from Kenya and Zimbabwe tell of people who are marginalized by society or have turned their backs on it—people who always stand somewhat apart from the supposed norm.
They are taken from the anthology *Parallel Existences* (edited by Stephanie Kreiner and Sonja Frenzel). This anthology brings together seven stories from three African countries. All of the authors of these stories were either shortlisted for or are winners of the prestigious Caine Prize for African Writing. Thus, this anthology brings together seven outstanding texts by young authors from African countries, translated and edited by young, up-and-coming translators and editors from the “Über Übersetzen” project at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
That evening, Christa Morgenrath will speak with Sonja Frenzel about translation processes and the creation of the anthology. Sonja Frenzel will read the German translations of the two stories.
